Infrared (IR) reflecting pigments – is a specialized addon colorants used in paint to reduce heat buildup from sunlight while maintaining the desired appearance of the product. This is particularly important for dark-coloured products, such as black housings and electronics, which traditionally absorb a large amount of solar energy.

Conventional pigments, like carbon black, tend to absorb near-infrared (NIR) radiation from sunlight and convert it into heat, causing surfaces to become significantly hotter.

IR-reflective pigments work differently: they reflect the infrared energy instead of absorbing it, which can dramatically reduce the surface temperature of the material while still preserving the intended colour.
